Custom made egg crate style cold air returns
A cold air return air vent that has versatile craftsman look can be difficult to come by. What a wonderful look of yesteryear eggcrate style vents have!! Reminiscent of going to the grandparent's house and wondering what that thing in the floor was! Well made, just like things of bygone days too! This one is shown in red oak, provided unfinished.

Note: There is a one inch lip all the way around. For example, a cold air return designed for a 10 by 10 duct opening would have overall dimensions of about 12 by 12. s&h: 10%, but at least $16.95
Optional bracing for large floor units
If your opening is over 12 inches square and is being used on the floor, then you'll need this solid welded steel framework that will provide support so you won't have to worry about people walking or standing on the grille. There are a lot of vintage houses with very large eggcrate grilles, usually broken. This is the perfect solution!
